Montana, now part of the Crans-Montana resort, was developed as a health resort in the early 20th century before becoming a renowned ski destination. The resort experienced significant growth after World War II, attracting an international clientele thanks to its exceptional sunshine and the quality of its slopes. Crans-Montana hosted the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1987.
